Pixel Pitch Explained: Which LED Pitch Do You Need?

Pixel pitch is the distance between the centres of two LEDs, in millimetres. P2.5 means 2.5 mm. A smaller pitch packs more LEDs into each square metre, so the picture stays sharp closer up, and the screen costs more. A simple rule: the closest viewer should stand at least as many metres away as the pitch in millimetres, and two to three times that distance looks best.

Pixel Pitch Explained: Which LED Pitch Do You Need?
Pixel PitchClosest Comfortable ViewingTypical Use
P1.2 to P1.9About 1.5 to 3 mMeeting rooms, control rooms, luxury retail
P2.5 to P3.9About 3 to 6 mLobbies, shops, malls, event stages
P4 to P6About 5 to 10 mShopfronts, large halls, close outdoor screens
P8 to P10About 10 m and moreFacades, billboards, stadium boards

Why the Finest Pitch Is Not Always the Best

A finer pitch only helps if someone stands close enough to notice. From the back of a hall, a P2.5 and a P1.9 screen look the same, but the finer one costs much more per square metre. We pick the pitch for the closest point where people will actually stand, then check that text and logos stay readable from there.

Resolution Comes From Size and Pitch Together

An LED screen has no fixed resolution like a TV. Divide the width in millimetres by the pitch to get the pixels across. A 4 m wide wall at P2.5 has 1,600 pixels across, close to full HD. A 4 m wall at P1.9 has about 2,100. Our LED wall planner does this sum for any size.

Indoor and Outdoor Pitch

Indoor screens usually run from P1.2 to P3.9 at 600 to 1,200 nits. Outdoor screens usually run from P4 to P10 and need about 5,000 nits or more in direct UAE sun. An outdoor screen that people pass on foot, such as a shopfront, often works best at P4 to P6.

How We Choose It With You

Tell us the wall size, where people stand and what will play on it: video, menus, adverts or data. We survey, show you a mockup at the right pitch, and quote the complete screen, structure and installation.

Questions About Pixel Pitch Explained: Which LED Pitch Do You Need?

What does P3 mean on an LED screen?

The LEDs are 3 mm apart, centre to centre. People can stand from about 3 m away and see a smooth picture.

Which pitch is best for a shop window in Dubai?

Usually P2.5 to P3.9 behind glass, viewed from inside or close outside, with higher brightness if it faces the sun. A shopfront screen outside often works at P4 to P6.

Can I use an outdoor pitch indoors?

You can, but a coarse pitch looks grainy up close indoors. Choose by viewing distance, not by price alone.

Does a finer pitch use more power?

Power depends mostly on brightness and size, but finer screens have more LEDs and drivers. We size the power supply for the exact screen.
